Charge Up! Conference

Video Stream 2011

The game’s changed. Digital filmmaking, once expensive and out of reach for many people has become extremely accessible to you and I.  From the production to post-production to distribution, the gap has been narrowed from a few major players to anyone that has access to some equipment and a computer. But that’s not all it takes. A great idea, strong storytelling techniques, managing your production well and knowing how to direct goes a long way in making your production stand out. Of course, it won’t hurt to brush up on those camera and editing skills too.

What is in store for you at Charge Up!?

Everyone:

The Production sandwich: Your idea. The final video. And everything in between. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how a video is made, and what are the areas you should pay more attention to.

C1: VIDEO PRODUCTION

Shooting video with DSLRS
You heard right. Gone are the days of the big, bulky (and even ugly!) video cameras. Say goodbye to tapes. It’s a revolution. And we’re there to get you up and running on how to shoot high definition video with the DSLR. From equipment to techniques, you’ll see why shooting with these cameras is the future.

The Bright Lights.
Few things are worse than dark and grainy shots. Like blurry shots. Or shaky ones. Or… you get the point. There’s plenty of stuff available out there to illuminate your scenes. We’ll tell you what they are and how to use them.

D.I.Y.
Budgets can be a challenge but they’re not a killer. All it takes is some research, creativity and steady hands to build that thing you need for that awesome moving shot.

Sounding Great!
It’s like your yearly dental check up. You forget about it or ignore the need for one. Then that dreaded toothache hits. Sound is the same. It makes up 50% of the audience’s experience yet often overlooked while shooting. Not anymore. We’ll help you capture the best sound possible on location.

C2: VIDEO POST-PRODUCTION

The Art of the Cut
There is so much more to editing than just pressing a few buttons. Knowing when and where to cut is just the beginning. Editors are in essence storytellers. They take vast amounts of seemingly random shots and string them together to form a cohesive and captivating story. Your craft begins here.

The Editing Tool
Final Cut Pro & Edius are currently used widely by professionals and consumers alike. They are powerful, flexible and most importantly accessible.  Learn the different functions and simple stuff like adding titles and basic compositing.

Still sounds great!
Clean up that annoying buzzing sound. Make your actors’ voices sound crisp. Add music and sound effects. Mix it all up for a totally awesome video. It’s all part of post-production audio editing.

Get it out there.
You finished the video, now what? Do I export as it as a mov, avi, mpeg 4 or the 100 over formats available out there? Does it even make a difference? Are youtube or vimeo the only ways I can get people to see my video? We’ll answer all these and more.
